Katrina Tang

Katrina grew up in Sydney, started piano at the age of 3 and received her A.Mus.A and L.Mus.A (AMEB) at the ages of 12 and 14. She has performed and competed in numerous competitions from a young age, including performing a double piano concerto with the Ku-ring-gai Philharmonic Orchestra at the age of 15, and as a soloist at the Sydney Opera House in 2013. She was the 2016-2019 ANU Performance Scholar awarded by the Friends of the ANU School of Music, the 2016 Wesley Music Scholar, and the recipient of various university prizes for performance excellence.

She has performed around Canberra including with the Canberra Symphony Orchestra, and has taught piano and musicianship for many years. She graduated with a Bachelor of Music/Laws (Honours) in 2019. 

Katrina’s involvement in musical theatre includes being in the pit for Spamalot (ANU, 2014), Evita (Philo, 2015), Miss Saigon (ANU, 2015) and Jersey Boys (Philo, 2021). She has been the Musical Director for a number of shows: Sweeney Todd (ANU, 2016), Into the Woods (ANU, 2017), Fame (Supa, 2018), Shrek (Free-Rain Theatre Company, 2018), The Full Monty (Supa, 2019), The Who’s Tommy (Philo, 2020) and School of Rock (Dramatic Productions, 2022). 

Katrina won Best Musical Director and Best Orchestra awards for the production of Sweeney Todd at the 2017 CAT Awards, and for the production of School of Rock at the 2022 Ovations Awards.
