Amy Kowalczuk

Amy’s theatrical work spans the last 25 years. She is an actor, a puppeteer, a director, a musical theatre performer and secondary performing arts educator. She runs her own independent theatre company Alchemy Artistic. Her debut work (Gordon Grahams ‘The Boys’) won top directing awards for the 2023 CAT awards, Ovation awards and Canberra Critics Circle awards.

Amy has performed in over seventy productions, several films, training videos and advertisements. As a professional actor/puppeteer and touring presenter, Amy dedicated 10 years of services to national identities, such as Questacon and The Starlight Children’s Foundation. She has toured interstate (NIDA, 2013) and abroad (Monaco, Mondial du Theatre, 2017) with a revival of her acclaimed performance of Nell Gwynn in Pigeonhole Theatres Playhouse Creatures by April de Angelis. Amy holds a Master of Theatre and Performance (Directing) from UNE.

Recent performances include Rose of Sharon in Grapes of Wrath, Jane Hopcroft in Absurd Person Singular (Canberra Rep) and Sandra Gangel in Everyman Theatres Beautiful Thing. Memorable roles include Annelle in Steel Magnolias, Molly in Home at the End, Penny Pingleton in Hairspray, Audrey in Little Shop of Horrors, April in Company, Henriette in Casanova and Fantine in Les Miserables.

In 2024 Amy will appear as Dr Chasuble in The Importance of Being Earnest (ACTHub), Polina in Seagull for Chaika, Blanche DuBois in A Streetcar Named Desire for Free-Rain Theatre, and as Meryl in Bombshells for Echo Theatre (performed at The Q). She will also direct Sarah Ruhl’s Eurydice (Lexi Sekuless Productions) and The Chalk Pit by Peter Wilkins- both at the Mill Theatre in December/January.
